Rabbi Yehoshua Singer served as the Rav of Am HaTorah from 2014 to 2023. He and his family brought renewed energy, enthusiasm, and vibrancy to our community. Through his warmth and sincerity, Rabbi Singer formed deep personal connections and bonds with our members. His tremendous in-depth knowledge of Torah, coupled with his unwavering commitment to Jewish tradition (the Mesorah), inspired us all to continue to grow spiritually.

Rabbi Singer received Rabbinic Ordination (Semicha Yoreh Yoreh Yadin Yadin) from Yeshivas Rabbeinu Yisrael Meir HaKohen (the Rabbinical Seminary of America, Yeshivas Chofetz Chaim) in New York in 2012, after having learned there for well over a decade.

Rabbi Singer also possesses a Post Graduate Certificate in Advanced Rabbinics and Synagogue Management (National Council of Young Israel, Touro College, and Young Israel Council of Rabbis).

Prior to joining Am HaTorah, Rabbi Singer worked primarily in Jewish education and outreach. He is an active member of the Vaad Harabonim (Rabbinical Council) of Greater Washington.

Rabbi Singer is complemented by his wife, Rebbetzin Serena Singer, who brought an equal degree of enthusiasm, warmth, and ingenuity to our community. After spending a year studying in Israel and earning a Teacher's Certificate, Rebbetzin Singer attended UMBC and received her Bachelors of Science degree in Dental Hygiene from the University of Maryland Dental School. From a young age, Rebbetzin Singer has volunteered as a youth leader at her synagogue and has been involved with youth programming. She ran the Jewish Women's Book Club at Am HaTorah and led discussion groups for the women of our community.

Their beautiful children, Nachi, Tehilla, Kalman, Chana Bracha, Meir Herschel, and Ayala were also a treasured part of our kehilla.
